What did you do before 9am this morning?

Here was my morning:
Got up at 440am for my opening shift. I went pee, wiped and noticed some pinkish blood so I wiped again and yup, more. I put on a panty protector so I can see if it was enough to get on there, and yes there was. So I had to run into work since I had to open the buidling at 530 and then Tim and I went to the ER. While I was driving to work I called all the other managers to see who would could cover for me and I finally got ahold of one that has had two kids. She suggested I call my OBs on call Dr. I didn't even know I had that option- I just knew they didn't open til 9am. So Tim and I sat parked in front of the ER while we waited to hear what the on call Dr had to say. She said because I am 9.5 weeks and at about 10 wks thats when your placenta starts settling into the uterus, that its common to have some spotting. And the fact that I wasn't passing clots and wasn't cramping should be a bit reassuring, but that she recommended I get an ultrasound. Since our ER is never busy we decided why wait to go in at the regular Drs office, when we can have the ultrasound at the ER ASAP?
The Er doc did a pelvic exam and kinda cleaned me out and noticed I didn't have new blood coming out. Then we had the u/s- the baby looks amazing! B-Mo now has little feet and arms and was moving and kicking his/her feet. Great, normal heartbeat too. So that totally reassured me! We also got the disc of pictures.
After the u/s Tim had to leave for a class for work that he shouldn't miss and since things looked good, I told him to go. Then about 20 min later the ER doc comes in to discharge me and tells me he's diagnosed me with a "threatened miscarriage". And the paperwork he gave me totally made everything seem ominous. He drew a picture for me to show how sometimes the placenta can be tearing away from the uterus... um what? The on call OB said it should be settling into it. The paperwork said I have a 50/50 chance of miscarriage. So that took whatever ease I may have had. It also states that I have lower my level of activity, which sucks because I finally started feeling good and energetic this week. So today I'm on bedrest and had to cancel all of my weekend plans.
At 9am I get a hold of my OB and she said that the ER docs always use the "threatened miscarriage" code for insurance purposes. My What to Expect blogs confirmed the same thing. She says that it doesn't really mean anything specific. She asked if the doc said anything about a "(something) hemmorage" and he didn't, so she really didn't seem that concerned. She did say that because I had started working out again, that could have caused some bleeding, that if I was dehydrated, that could cause it (I definitely haven't been drinking enough water and my lips are super chapped) or it could be the placenta is settling itself in. So she gave me a little bit more peace of mind.
I've gone to the bathroom twice this afternoon and had no more bleeding, PTL! But I had a fun filled weekend ahead of me which I was really looking forward to now that I'm feeling more energetic. Including my Ashleys wedding party night out, the American Heartwalk I walk in every year, date night with golf or tennis with Tim Saturday night, and Mariners last home game on Sunday :(
I mean of course I'm willing to skip out on all of those things because I'll do whatever it takes to have a healthy baby, but its disappointing.
As you can see i've had a pretty busy morning filled with downs and ups.

On a more positive note, here are some 9.5 week pictures of our cute little B-Mo. Too bad it wasn't video because she/he was totally kicking her little legs for us!

The lil feet are on the left and the prominant head is on the right

The 2nd picture is a close up of B-Mo's limbs

  1. Ack! So stressful! Sounds like you are taking good care of yourself and that darling baby of yours. These first months can be quite anxiety provoking, so hang in there!

  2. Hang in there! I too had spotting around 7-8 weeks and it came back about a week later (freaked me out). I took it easy (as I was working out again at that point), and things have been just fine since! Keep your head up, and i'm sure everything will be just fine!
