10 Months and a bit more...

Tomorrow is Kaydriana's 10-month birthday, but to be honest I feel a little cheated on time because February is a short month.
Today we had a follow up appt to check on her weight since she lost weight between 8 and 9 months. She has gained 2.3lbs and is now at a whopping 19.1 lbs! I was so relieved to know that she is healthy and right where she needs to be.
Kaydriana hasn't said her first words yet, but she talks and (I believe) sings all the time. She's been saying, "dadada" for a while now, and I hadn't heard her make any, "mmmm" sounds. So every opportunity I get I say, "momma" and press her lips together to show her how to make an "m" sound. Finally she mimmicked me twice and said something close to, "momma". But in my opinion it doesn't officially count until she looks at me and says it. She is starting to realize the words though. A few days ago I said, "Griffey" and she looked at him, then I said, "daddy" and she looked at daddy and then I said, "momma" and she looked at me. That made me very happy!
She is cruising around on her little riding/walking toy. And sometimes she'll give her knees a break when crawling and put her feet on the floor and walk on her feet and hands. It's a funny site! She's a bit of a daredevil. Right before bed time she gets a second wind and loves to be up on the couch where she'll climb over me and Tim and pillows and tumbles. If she gets an invigorating tumble she laughs. I love it! But of course we have to be right there so she doesn't tumble right off the couch while seeking her thrill. She loves to climb on anything just about her size.
Our little smarty pants also discovered a trick. On Saturday 2/28 I was out with the girls and had finally taken a Costco sized box of diapers out of my trunk. They didn't make their way upstairs yet so Kaydriana scooted the box over to the couch where she used the box to climb up on the couch! Maybe we have a genius on our hands!? :P
Some things are coming to end. I'm still breast feeding, but Kaydriana now drinks more formula than she does breastmilk. On the days that I work I'm guessing she is only getting 12-20 oz of BM. The past few weeks she has become very distracted while nursing and this week she has been biting me. Not too hard, but hard enough that it hurts. I really really want to nurse until she is 1 year old, but I don't know if that is going to happen. I know I'll be so sad when that final feeding comes!
The other thing coming to an end is Stay at Home Daddy. This is great news! Tim found out that he will be starting back at Mercer Island for a seasonal position in April. We're still hoping for a permanent city job, but for now this is good. We found a great daycare called the Issaquah Children's Acadamy. Tim's mom knows the owner and we toured it and absolutely love it! It's quite spendy, but I think Kaydriana will thrive in their environment. They are teaching centered and the kids looked so happy to be there. Kaydriana is such a busy body that playing with other kids her age and learning on a daily basis will be so good for her.

  1. It sounds like she is having so much fun exploring her environment, this is always a fun time when they really start to discover the world around them!
