Well, 1 year and 6 days to be exact. I'm a bit behind and don't think I'll be able to remember all the interesting things that have happened in the past 9 weeks. I’ll start from newest to oldest:
Today was the first time Kaydriana really hurt herself. I let her play on the stairs (yes, I know what a horrible thing to do-especially cuz I kept thinking that I better not let her fall!) but I was impressed that she was remembering what I taught her about going backwards down the stairs (and off the couch). But after a few successful maneuvers she ended up doing a summersault and I can picture her cute little hair up in the pony tail going around and then she slid on her tummy and face a few more stairs-about 10 in all. It’s bringing tears to my eyes right now picture it. Anyway I grab her before she starts round two and discover a few moments later that she has blood pooling out of right side of her mouth. I grab a towel and try to do something with it, but she won’t let me. I found her bottle that she refused to eat earlier and was able to settle her down and she drank it. I just looked at her and was shaking telling her she was ok and that I was sorry. She didn’t have any particular upset or blaming look in her eye, she just looked comforted (Thank God because I don’t think I could have handled the hurt look in her eye). Man! Seeing your baby bleed is a sickening feeling and then knowing it was my fault makes it a lot more upsetting.
I was already feeling bad that she has a bruise on the top of her foot from these decorative blocks I put up in our living room…
Anyway, last week was her first birthday. Her party was a lot of fun (and hectic for mom and dad!) and we had 50 guests total. The weather cooperated for the most part which was a blessing. It was a bit cold and windy, but we had some patches of sun and it only rained for about 5 minutes. We did a Minnie Mouse theme and had ears for the little kids. Kaydriana did a great job of keeping her special Minnie mouse ears on. We BBQd burgers and dogs and I made cupcakes that sat on a Mickey Mouse tower. I made Kaydriana her own big cupcake that she loved eating! She got a lot of great presents. She even received three of the same thing, a Leap Frog My Pal Violet toy. Apparently this is a new and hip toy that many people know about. She absolutely loves it! You can select your own songs, and put your kids names (although we had to choose “Peanut” since ‘Kaydriana’ wasn’t in the catalog of choices and that’s what daddy calls her) and select her fave food, color and animal. She got a lot of cute clothes and fun toys and more books. She is set!
My sister, Breanna got to come and spend a few days with us. I absolutely love time with my sis and we got to spend my first Mothers Day together. I even went along with her while she did a photo shoot for one of my friends. Tim and Kaydri got me this beautiful necklace that is a silhouette of a mom and child with a heart. Very pretty! We met up with Tims parents and had brunch together at New Castle Golf Course. De-lish!
Easter was a very special time. My dad has been diagnosed with Cancer and after a few weeks of back and forth regarding his health, the news came that he has a limited time left on this earth with us. I made the decision that Kaydriana and I were going to go spend Easter with him and the rest of the Jones side of the family. Kaydriana did great on the plane! So Kaydriana’s first Easter was spent in California with her Grandpa and Grandma Jones, Aunt Breanna, Uncle Will, Cousin Reid, Uncle Robby, Aunt Jordan, Great Uncle Greg and Aunt Jonna, and second cousins, Chris and Kailyn. We even saw Kyle for a brief time. This was Kaydriana’s first holiday with Grandpa and perhaps her last and it was very special. She and Reid got absolutely spoiled with gifts, Easter Egg hunt and even more gifts. Breanna and I even made them take a bath together for future embarrassment possibilities J I don’t think Reid really knew what to do with his little cousin, but Kaydriana seemed to really like him. Both kids really seemed to enjoy the extra attention and loves.
Within the past few months some of Kaydriana’s miles stones were: taking a few steps, standing/dancing/squatting without holding on, pointing to momma’s nose, saying momma and dada (although not totally going to make them her official first words just yet), has her 7th tooth and it appears a molar is coming in, graduated to the wobbler room in daycare, she started doing this huge smile thing with all of her little teeth showing, she likes to be chased and “scared” by daddy- she gets really excited in anticipation, she has started to give hugs and what I perceive to be kisses (putting her face on my face), she signs “all done” when she’s done eating and has her own sign for “momma”, when she wants me to sing twinkle twinkle little star, she does the finger movements, she loves to play peek a boo – especially when she has the blanket to cover herself or you with, when she hears applause on tv or people say, “yay” she claps, and when you say, “what does Griffey do?” she pants like a dog. She may not be walking and talking yet, but she’s got her own set of adorable skills!
I guess that’s all I can think of for now. I really wanted to get this recorded so I can remember what she accomplished when. I can’t wait to look back and see how far she has come.
As for me… well Kaydriana hasn’t been doing all that well with sleeping through the night since we went to California. I think it was a mixture of messing up her routine, a new tooth coming in, and now she’s got her 3rd cold since starting daycare. Also I think that she’s going through a growth spurt because I hear her tummy growling when she wakes up at 2am. So I’ve been extremely tired. I’m up to three cups of coffee a day. I used to only drink 1 and only in the morning. I think the lack of sleep and then added caffeine is aggravating my issues with anxiety and creating heart palpitations. I’ve been trying to break Kaydriana’s routine of waking up in the middle of the night but when I hear her little tummy growl I know I can’t ignore that. It’s been a very hard past few weeks!
Happy first year to Kaydriana and it is just as much of a celebration for you and Tim as well! She sure sounds like a typical one year old :) What a joy it has been to watch your little family develop over this past year.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your dad. That's great that you got to spend some quality time with him.
Thanks, Laura!
